When I first painted this, I didn't know the context behind it until I was led to the verse Matthew 18:20, “Where two or more gather in my name I am with them.” To me, this verse is about not only connecting with God but connecting with others through God. Some people believe that a church is only in a specific building for a specific purpose, I believe church is the people that make up the body of Christ, not a place. You don't have to be in a church to connect with and be a follower of Christ in unity with others. By communicating with others and applying this verse to our lives we can learn and grow in spirit, God is within each of us, and we were made to share our spiritual knowledge with each other. Whether you're with one person or many, we are called to come together in Christ. In this painting, the commoners are listening to Jesus preach about that verse. Learning not only about how we should live our lives but how to grow as we do so from the Lord himself.
I hope this art and many more of my future pieces inspire others to commit to a life of Christ and truth. I encourage all who see it to read scripture, not only so that they may be saved but so that they may go on to help others in His name as well.
